SYLLABUS

Module 1: Principles of History, Ethics and Law in Aesthetic Medicine

This module covers the historical, ethical and economic background of aesthetic medicine. The learner will develop knowledge regarding the applications of medical ethical principles to aesthetic medicine, and an understanding of the current state of regulation and legislation within aesthetic medicine.

Module 2: Principles of Beauty and Attractiveness in Aesthetic Medicine

This module covers the beauty and attractiveness concepts expected from a practitioner of aesthetic medicine. It also addresses a range of methodological and appearance related considerations specific to the practice of aesthetic medicine. The learner will develop an understanding of the principles guiding the practice of aesthetic medicine.

Module 3: Principles of Anatomy in Aesthetic Medicine

This module covers the elements of anatomy and dermatology relevant to a practitioner of aesthetic medicine. The learner will develop an understanding of the facial anatomy including muscles, arteries, veins and nerves, together with the anatomy of the skin, its functions, ageing process and social significance.

Module 4: Principles of Botulinum Toxin in Aesthetic Medicine

This module covers the history, biochemistry and pharmacology of botulinum toxin. With reference to its use within aesthetic medicine, it also addresses pre-injection preparation and dosage of a range of botulinum toxin products. The learner will develop an understanding of the actions of botulinum toxin and its clinical use in aesthetic medicine.

Module 5: Practice of Botulinum Toxin use in Aesthetic Medicine

This module covers the competence elements of botulinum toxin administration, including a step-by-step Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) guideline for botulinum toxin aesthetic procedures . The learner will develop the ability to administer botulinum toxin treatments, individualised to the needs of a patient, including all stages of consultation and care plan development.

Module 6: Complications and unwanted results of Botulinum Toxin use in Aesthetic Medicine

This module covers the most common complications and adverse effects of the use of botulinum toxin in aesthetics. It also exposes and discusses real case studies with complications and unwanted results. The learner will develop an understanding of the possible unwanted outcomes and how to address them in a competent manner.

Module 7: Starting in Aesthetic Medicine

This module provides basic advice on the newly trained practitioners about to start offering botulinum toxin treatments professionally. The learner will develop an understanding of the need for continuous development, product selection, colleague interaction and treatments combination, amongst other important issues to consider in order to excel in the practice of aesthetic medicine.
